# Manage users

> Team admins can create, update, and delete user accounts within the Uniform platform.

Source: https://docs.uniform.app/docs/guides/users

In order for a person to log into the Uniform Dashboard, the
person must have a user account.

> **Info:**
>
> Only [team admins](#team-admin) can create, edit and delete roles.

## About users

### Team admin

Team admins have elevated permissions that allow them to manage all aspects of the team. Only team admins can:

- Modify team settings and configuration
- Create and delete projects
- Invite and remove team members
- Create and manage roles
- Generate and manage API keys
- Install and manage custom integrations

> **Info:**
>
> Team admin status is assigned when [creating a user](#create-user) or can be updated by [editing an existing user](#update-user).

## Common tasks

### Create user

You create a new user by inviting the person to Uniform.

1. In Uniform, navigate to **Security > Users**.
2. Click **Invite member**.
3. Enter the user's name and email address.
4. If you want the user to be an administrator, tick the box **Team Admin**.
5. In the section **Assign projects & roles**, find the project you want the user to have access to.
6. Select the roles you want to assign.

   > **Info:**
   >
   > You can assign multiple roles, permissions within the roles are additive for the user.
7. Click **Send Invitation**.
8. In the section **Outstanding Invitations**, you will see the user you invited.

   > **Note:**
   >
   > An email is sent to the user. When the user clicks the link in
   > the email, if they aren't already logged in, they're invited
   > to login or create an account. After they do this, they're
   > asked if they want to join the team. If they join the team,
   > they will have the access you specified.

   > **Info:**
   >
   > Invitations are valid for 7 days. Unclaimed invitations are removed automatically 30 days after they're sent.

   > **Tip:**
   >
   > If you decide you don't want the user to have access to your
   > team, you can click **Revoke** to invalidate the invitation,
   > preventing the user from accepting the invitation and gaining
   > access to your Uniform team. If the user has already joined
   > the team, you can [remove the user from your team](#remove-a-user-from-your-team).

### Remove a user from your team

Removing a user takes away their access to your Uniform team and revokes the personal access tokens they created for it. Their Uniform account and their memberships in other teams stay in place. To erase an account entirely, the user has to [delete their own account](#delete-your-account). If the user signs in with [SSO](https://docs.uniform.app/docs/integrations/sso#user-deprovisioning) and this is their last team, removing them erases the account.

1. In Uniform, navigate to **Security > Users**.
2. Click the name of the user you want to remove.
3. Click **delete**.
4. Click **OK**.

### Update user

Editing a user enables you to change the projects and permissions for the user.

1. In Uniform, navigate to **Security > Users**.
2. Click the name of the user you want to edit.
3. In the **Assign projects & roles** section:

   - To **add** access to a project, find the project and select one or more [roles](https://docs.uniform.app/docs/guides/roles-and-permissions) from the dropdown.
   - To **change** roles on a project, use the dropdown to select or deselect roles.
   - To **remove** access from a project, click the **x** next to each assigned role.
4. Click **Save**.

> **Tip:**
>
> You can assign multiple roles to a user. When roles have conflicting permissions, the permission is allowed. See [combining roles](https://docs.uniform.app/docs/guides/roles-and-permissions#combine-roles-for-granular-security) for details.

### Delete your account

Any user can permanently delete their own Uniform account; you don't need to be a team admin. This erases your account and personal data across every Uniform team you belong to.

> **Warning:**
>
> Deleting your account can't be undone. Any team where you're the only member is deleted entirely, including all of its projects, content, and API keys. (Service accounts, personal access tokens, and automations don't count as members.)

1. In Uniform, navigate to **Security > Users**.
2. Click your own name in the list.
3. Click **Delete my account**.
4. Type your email address to confirm.
5. Click **Permanently delete my account**.

   > **Note:**
   >
   > Your account is deleted and you're signed out of Uniform.

#### What's deleted and what stays

Deleting your account removes:

- Your Uniform account and login
- Your memberships and roles in every team
- The personal access tokens you created
- Every team where you're the only member, along with everything that team contains

Teams you share with other people are kept. The content you created in those teams stays, but it's no longer attributed to you.

#### When you can't delete your account

Uniform checks every team you belong to before it deletes anything. If one of these checks fails, nothing is deleted and the dashboard shows the reason:

- **You're the only team admin of a team that has other members (not counting service accounts, personal access tokens, or automations).** Make another member a [team admin](#team-admin) first.
- **A team where you're the only member has an active paid subscription.** Cancel the subscription first.

> **Info:**
>
> Uniform doesn't provide a self-service export of your personal data. To request a copy of your data, contact [Uniform support](mailto:support@uniform.dev).

### Enable single sign-on

Users can log into Uniform using their email address, or their Google or GitHub credentials. If your organization uses another service for single sign-on (e.g. Auth0, Microsoft Entra ID/Azure Active Directory, etc.), see [SSO integration](https://docs.uniform.app/docs/integrations/sso) for details.
